December 31, 2016

Written by Ms. Hannah, The Monogram Murders takes you back to Hercule Poirot's world of intrigue and mystery. When I saw this book at a bookstore, I got it immediately and started reading it right there. Finished it in one weekend. :)

Princess of Athelia: An Unfinished Fairy Tales Novella by Aya Ling

December 30, 2016

This is a short story that is set before the second full length book Twice Upon A Time takes place. It showed us a little bit more about what happened after Kat accepted Edward's proposal. As in the previous book, this story had many funny moments and such a cute romance between Kat, once considered one of the ugly stepsisters of Cinderella, and Edward, the prince of the kingdom. I can't wait to read the next part of Kat's adventure in the fairy tale world.

Fortune Hunter (Miss Fortune Mystery #8) by Jana Deleon

December 14, 2016

For those following this series, the intrigue and comedy continues. Even though, the mystery was not as complicated as previous ones, it still had a few twists here and there. Fortune, Ida, and Gertie are always right in the middle of a mystery, and no matter who gets in their way, they won't stop until the case is solved. I can't wait to read the next book. When will Fortune get closer to solving her own case of that dangerous man that's always chasing her?...

The Secret Life of Anna Blanc by Jennifer Kincheloe

July 11, 2016

Socialite Anna Blanc’s adventure started as scandalous as you can imagine in 1907 Los Angeles. At first, I wasn’t sure how Anna was going to solve a mystery especially when sometimes she was acting in such a way that it made you wince. But, as you continued to read, you saw her transformation as she became a more thoughtful person who started taking more seriously other people’s feelings and struggles. This book had it all, romance (Anna and Officer Joe Singer. Wow, how the sparks flew!), comedy, lots of historical facts, and of course, a murder mystery. I hope Anna’s story continues…

Sealed with a Wish by Rosie David

July 8, 2016

This was such a cute story. Layla was smart and funny, and even though she was a genie, nobody knew of her secret at school. But, that changes when Sean, a popular guy, finds out the truth, and now they have to spend time together. Oh, my… A YA Romantic Comedy.

*I hope there is a sequel. Layla was such a funny and original character. :)

The Sister by Louise Jensen

July 8, 2016

Suspenseful! Seriously. A few chapters in and you can’t help but freak out with Grace as she starts to believe she is either being followed or going crazy. At first she believes it’s just in her head because she’s still dealing with the loss of her best friend Charlie, but then too many freaky things start happening especially once she meets Anna (She was so CREEPY from beginning to end). And then, as you continue to read, you can’t help feeling bad for Grace because it seems that she’s just in the middle of something bigger than she could have ever imagined. Charlie, Anna, Dan, Lexie, Siobhan, and even Grace…. so many secrets... so many lies… Aaahhhhhh…. What a mystery!

Quite an original story and characters, but for some reason one of the characters that I didn’t really like that much was Dan… I tried. But he was just kind of… I don’t know…yikes.

Death & Detention: Season 1 (YA Mystery): The Complete 1st Season (Death & Detention | Season 1 Book 6) by Rosie David

July 7, 2016

This story grabs your attention from the beginning with Prudence arriving to school and coming face to face with a police scene that won’t stop bothering her until she starts to investigate the drowning herself. Which is kind of hard to do at school, due that she’s considered an outcast, to the point where her peers don’t want to be seen with her. However, even with all those obstacles, what she starts discovering is not good at all. The students who were associated with the victim have many, many secrets. Great murder mystery book. Prudence was a strong character who never gave up. The story gave you clues along the way, but the many surprises and twists kept you guessing until the end. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Million Dollar Girl by Crystal Hubbard

June 6, 2016

This was a cute story to read. This book focuses from beginning to end on Emy and Logan’s unique love story. A love story between an introvert photographer and a famous actor who enrolls at Prescott High School as a senior. Emy is a very quiet girl who likes to keep to herself, and as soon as Logan, the student who she is tutoring, starts to express his feelings towards her, she fights against it, not daring to believe that it’s really true. However, instead of giving up, Logan fights for her, until the end. :)

Ruins (Partials Sequence #3) by Dan Wells

January 20, 2015

A YA, Post-Apocalyptic Thriller...

Really, I’m not kidding! Overall, five stars trilogy. The main character Kira rocks! Since book one, she stood up to the wrongdoings even if it meant it was just herself against the dying world. Yes, even though, there were quite a few point of views in the story, you still got to take the main journey with Kira. And, although, she had to fight against so much in this last book, she still held dearly the belief that the purpose of her fight was to help everyone survive, both humans and partials (Wow! Go Kira!) The other main characters were great too (Those Trust people were really messed up. Loved Green, Marcus, Heron, and Samm in this book). There were a lot of action scenes, and they were quite suspenseful too, like scary type suspenseful… Until the last few pages, you really didn’t know which way the story was going to end, with so, so many central characters making oh-my/what-the/oh-nooo decisions, including Kira! Totally recommend this YA Post-Apocalyptic series!

P.S. What a way to keep you guessing with the two truths and a lie game while reading this book. And, the ending… well… ummmm… Why did it just have to end?!!!!! ... :)

The Offering (Sovereign #2) by E.R. Arroyo

January 18, 2016

Okay, so, I had a feeling the love triangle between Dylan, Cori, and Tyce was going to be up front in this book, and yup… it was (Love triangles…. aahhhhh :). However, normally, once the heroine makes up her mind, her heart is set, but for some reason, with this love triangle it felt like it almost took half the book to resolve (And, even then, it was iffy if Cori had really made up her mind by the thoughts she kept having for both guys… noooooo. Dylan!). But after that, the second part of Cori’s journey towards helping the people started to get more attention, and wow, what a suspenseful adventure it was towards trying to liberate herself and others (Cori and Eli’s relationship was so cute :) from the evil Antius (Whoa… there were quite a few scary scenes). This book had romance, action, and suspense. And although, this was the second book in the series, it felt like it was the last one. But, what about Cori? Will she and the others, including the city people, ever be completely free from Antius? And, what about any kind of breakthroughs when it comes to the medicine that they really need?... O.M.G… :)

New World Order (Sunset Rising #3) by S.M. McEachern

January 18, 2016

Nooooo, the last book in the Sunset Rising series…

Due that book two ended in a cliffhanger, book three picks up right in the middle of the action. Jack has been kidnapped by these ruthless recruiters, and Sunny with her friends immediately follow to save him and his companions (Loved the way that Sunny went after Jack. She was not afraid. Go Sunny! My favorite character in the series :). As she goes after him, another team joins, and oh-oh, someone is trying to sabotage the rescue. What’s going on? With tensions already high between the two sides that once used to form the Dome society, Sunny needs to find Jack as soon as possible and go back home, and try to unite the people before it’s too late. Totally loved the scenes where Sunny, Summer, and Reyes were fighting as a team with those high tech suits (They were like a cool superhero team. I hope later on, on the new series that will be based on the Sunset Rising world, we will be able to see more of that team). The adventures Sunny and Jack went through were sometimes scary and sad especially when it came to the recruiters (Some were really creepy) However, they kept fighting for justice. And, then the ending happened, and oh wow... (It was a good ending, but it just felt  kind of open-ended... I can't wait to read the new series that will be set on this world, too. It would be really cool if there are more stories about Sunny and Jack. :) Totally recommend this YA series to everyone who loves to read action/adventure dystopian books. :)

Worlds Collide (Sunset Rising #2) by S.M. McEachern

January 17, 2016

Book two, yay! In Worlds Collide, once both Sunny and Jack realize they are not alone, they find out that President Holt is not only controlling the Dome, but also has sinister plans once he too comes out of that place. This a suspenseful story about two people from different sides coming together to save the people living in the Pit, and also finding a way, once and for all, to expose and destroy Holt’s evil plan. And on top of that, looking for a way to free and protect the captive people they meet (Yikes!!!). Woohoo, for book three. I can’t wait to learn more about the Nations people. Great characters. :)
